Fire Trucks

a. Fire trucks are the responsibility of the engineers. b. In the event that an engineer does not respond to a call, an officer will operate the truck. c. A walk around inspection is mandatory prior to driving any apparatus as well as when the truck returns to the station. (Please reference Vehicle Readiness Supplement.) d. Safety belts are to be worn at all times when driving or riding in the trucks. State law and insurance require this. e. If you are not qualified to operate the trucks, do not get into the driver’s seat. f. Headlights are to be on at all times when trucks are being driven. g. Flashing lights and sirens are to be used when driving code 3. h. You may only exceed the posted speed limit by ten miles per hour in engines and rescue units when responding to a call. Tenders shall not exceed the posted speed limit. i. There should always be a minimum of two personnel in the truck when responding to a call. j. The driver will drive only, while the front passenger will operate the lights, siren and radio. k. At a minimum, at least 1 tender and 1 engine will remain in district and at least 2 personnel with 1 of them having proficient EMS skills and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). l. If you use something off of a truck, put it back where you got it. m. If you use something off of a truck that needs to be replenished, see to it yourself or notify an engineer/officer. n. The inventory and the placement of it on trucks is the responsibility of the Lead Engineer.
