Purpose
What stays in the file and for how long.
All members are expected to comply with District policy. Record rules from the 2026 book: - Suspensions of more than 80 hours, demotions and dismissals are a permanent record. - Documentation without a removal date may be petitioned after a minimum of two years. - Permanent file items include: separation notice over 80 hours; a repeat of any offense within three years; numerous unrelated offenses within three years; any felony conviction or guilty plea (on or off duty); any violation the Fire Chief deems extremely detrimental; original employment / police-record checks; probationary performance reports; scheduled performance ratings. - State statute retention schedules supersede District policy if the state time is longer.
